Water tanks overflow as Amritsar MC looks other way
Amritsar, January 15
Wastage of water and depleting water table are a serious concern. Every day, thousands of litres of water flows into sewerage from overflowing overhead tanks of public and private buildings on the Lawrence road in the city.
These overhead tanks don’t have an apparatus that uses a balloon to stop the flow of water. The cost of this device is only Rs 60.
People use electric pumps to fill overhead water tanks during summers as the supply pressure is low. In winters, the situation is opposite as the usage of water decreases and overhead tanks can be seen overflowing in many areas.
Joginder pal, a plumber said, “Overflowing water can be stopped with a simple mechanical device fixed at the end of the supply pipe in a tank. As soon as tank gets filled, the balloon starts floating towards the surface and the water supply stops automatically.” He said the device could be bought for Rs 60.
Joginder said a little care by residents and the administration could help save lakhs of litres of potable water from flowing down the drain. He said now-a-days people were also using an alarm which alerts them when overhead water tank get filled.
