Woman among two arrested for drug peddling, 1.5kg heroin seized
Gharinda police have arrested two suspected drug peddlers, including a woman, and recovered 1.5kg of heroin from their possession. A third accused is currently absconding.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Balbir Kaur and Amritpal Singh alias Kaka, both residents of Dhanoe Khurd village. Their accomplice, Sahibdeep Singh alias Sabu, managed to flee and is currently on the run.
Raids were on to nab him, said the police.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Lakhwinder Singh Kaler said the arrests were made following a tip-off that Sahibdeep, Amritpal and Balbir Kaur were involved in drug trafficking. Acting on the information, a police team set up a naka near defence drain ahead of the barbed fence.
The suspects, riding a motorcycle, tried to evade the checkpoint.During the attempted escape, Balbir Kaur fell off the bike and was apprehended on the spot. Police recovered the heroin from her possession.
Her interrogation led to the arrest of Amritpal, while efforts are underway to track down Sahibdeep.
A case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at the Gharinda police station. Further investigation is in progress to trace the source of the heroin and uncover the accused’s backward and forward linkages.
