The local police booked a woman for making a fake Tinder profile of another woman and putting up the latter’s Facebook identity link on the same. The victim filed a police complaint after she started receiving vulgar messages in her inbox on a regular basis from different accounts.
The police said the matter was investigated by the cyber cell and the IP address of the accused was traced to Aarushi Mehra of Rohni area in Delhi. SHO A Division police station Inspector Neeraj Kumar, who is also the investigating officer in the case, said, “The case was registered against the accused after a report from the cyber cell, which also provided evidence in this regard.”
The complainant had stated that her picture was downloaded from her Facebook profile and added to her fake profile. She stated that she suffered harassment at the hands of unknown persons before she mustered the courage to report the matter to the police.
The police said the reason and motive behind making a fake profile was being investigated. “So far, no relation between the victim and the accused has came known but we would investigate the same,” said Neeraj Kumar, adding that a case under Sections 66-C, 66-D, and 67 of the Information Technology Act and Section 509 of the IPC has been registered against the accused.
