The police have booked a person after a woman working with a cultural group found dead in a hotel room near the Golden Temple area here on Monday.

The suspect has been identified as Manjit Singh, alias Billa, of Jaintipur village. According to the police, the suspect and the woman were in the room when the latter’s health got deteriorated at midnight.

On Tuesday, the hotel staff opened the door after they did not get any response from inside. Thereafter, they found the woman’s body. The suspect left the room without informing the hotel staff.

Narinder Singh, deceased’s husband, told the police that on Sunday, his wife went for a function with the suspect. He said at 3.30 am, the suspect called him up from her phone and told him that they were in the hotel room when she fell ill. Later, her phone was switched off.

He said when he reached the hotel room, he found his wife dead. A case has been registered. — TNS
