Amritsar, July 8
A woman was shot dead by armed assailants in her house in Rajasansi area in broad daylight here on Monday.
The victim, identified as Harjinder Kaur, and her minor child were the only two at home when the accused entered the house by jumping over the wall. An old enmity was stated to be the reason behind the incident.
The police have arrested two persons. A case was registered against a total of eight persons in this connection, stated Karan Sharma, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Rajasansi).
Those arrested were identified as Ajay and Kuldeep. Among those booked, Love, Sajan and Nishan were identified as prime suspects.
The Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) said the accused had a verbal duel with the victim’s husband Bhagwant Singh two days ago over an old enmity. The accused had ‘given time’ for sorting out the matter yesterday. But, Bhagwant Singh, a private financier, preferred to stay away from it. However, the accused reached his house this afternoon and asked Harjinder Kaur about the whereabouts of her husband. When she did not tell, the accused fired at her leading to her death on the spot.
Harbhajan Singh, father of Bhagwant Singh, said he (Bhagwant) was getting threats from the accused and he had lodged complaints with the police in this regard. However, the police failed to take any action against them and now armed assailants entered the house and killed his daughter-in-law, he added.
