During the protest, Congress leader Sarkaria said they were protesting to wake up the BJP leaders from slumber who were not listening to people’s voice. He said the government was trying to suppress people’s voice and instead it should have revoked the Act which many fear is against the interests of the citizens. The Congress workers sat outside the residence of the BJP leader for around two hours which also caused traffic snarls.

Meanwhile, the students of Industrial Training Institute (ITI) here, under the banner of Punjab Students’ Union too staged a protest against the CAA and NRC. Speaking on the occasion, PSU Senior Vice-President Hardeep Kaur Kotla said, “The BJP government is pursuing its agenda of making the country a Hindu nation.” She said students from various universities in the country have shown that they would not bow down to any pressure and would work as torchbearers of democracy.

“We stand united with the students of AMU, JNU and other universities across the nation along with all the people who are protesting against the fascist Act aimed at dividing people and getting political mileage by polarising the nation,” she said.
