As a part of Republic Day celebrations, the Indian Army organised a jazz band concert in Dasmesh auditorium of Guru Nanak Dev University here on Thursday. The event was organised to promote spirit of patriotism and national integration among students.

Speaking on the occasion, Maj Gen Bikram Singh, General Officer Commanding, 15 Infantry Division, said the objective of the event was to showcase how people from various walks of life respected the indomitable spirit of the Indian armed forces.

He exhorted youths to join the armed forces in a large number to contribute to national security. A band comprising members from various regiments performed emotional and patriotic numbers in the presence of vice-chancellor Prof Jaspal Singh Sandhu, Dean (academic affairs) Prof SS Behl, Registrar Karanjeet Singh Kahlon, Dean (students’ welfare) Hardeep Singh, Director (events and hospitality) Prof Anish Dua.

The event was attended by civil and military dignitaries, students, staff members of university and serving soldiers.

The placement department of Guru Nanak Dev University, in collaboration with Capgemini company from Mumbai, organised a campus placement drive here on Thursday. Around 300 students from the main as well as regional campuses of the university attended the event. University authorities said the company selected 36 candidates after various vigorous tests. Selected candidates were students of BCA and BSc (IT) courses.

They will work in cities such as New Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Chennai, Kolkata and Bengaluru. Vice-chancellor Dr Jaspal Singh Sandhu and Dean (academic affairs) Dr SS Behl congratulated the students.
