Zila Parishad, Block Samiti polls in Tarn Taran on Dec 14

Voters from 492 villages in Tarn Taran district, with a population of 9,79,593, will elect members for the Zila Parishad and nine Block Samitis on December 14. District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Rahul announced that elections will be held for 20 zones of the Zila Parishad and 165 zones of the Block Samitis using ballot papers. In accordance with government regulations, 50 per cent of the seats have been reserved for women candidates.

The process for filing nominations will begin on December 1, 2025 (Monday), from 11.00 am to 3.00 pm at the offices of the concerned Returning Officers. The last date for submission of nomination papers is December 4, 2025 (Thursday). Scrutiny of the nominations will take place on December 5, 2025 (Friday) and candidates will have until December 6, 2025 (Saturday) at 3.00 pm to withdraw their nominations. The voting will take place on December 14, 2025 (Sunday) between 8.00 am and 4.00 pm. The counting of votes will be held on December 17, 2025 (Wednesday) at the designated counting centres.

The election will cover 20 zones of the Zila Parishad and 165 zones across nine Block Samitis, with the following distribution: 15 zones in Gandiwind, 20 zones in Naushera Pannuan, 16 zones in Chohla Sahib, 15 zones in Nagoke, 16 zones in Patti, 25 zones in Khadoor Sahib, 18 zones in Valtoha, 17 zones in Tarn Taran and 23 zones in Bhikhiwind.

The State Election Commission has set an election expenditure limit of Rs 2,55,000 for candidates running for the Zila Parishad and Rs 1,10,000 for candidates vying for the Panchayat Samiti.

Tarn Taran district has 572 Panchayats, with a total population of 9,79,593, including 3,38,937 Scheduled Castes and 81,588 Backward Classes. The district administration has already begun the election process.
