Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on Saturday performed the Bhoomi Poojan of the country’s first cooperative university, Tribhuvan Sahkari University, in Anand, Gujarat.
Speaking on the occasion, Shah said the institution named after Tribhuvan Das Patel, who laid the foundation of cooperative movement, would reflect the spirit of cooperation.
The university campus spanning over 125 acres would be built at a cost of Rs 500 crore. Shah said laying foundation stone of Tribhuvan Sahkari University was an important initiative towards filling gaps in the cooperative sector.
“Earlier, employees were given training after recruitment in cooperatives, but after the formation of this university, only those who have undergone training here will get jobs. It will end nepotism in cooperatives, ensure transparency and give jobs,” he added.
