The Special Unit for Anti-Gangster (SUAG) of Sector-27 police nabbed a notorious wanted gangster, Ravi alias Lamba, after a brief encounter in the Kharkhoda area of Sonepat district in the early hours of Friday morning.
The accused has been identified as Ravi alias Lamba, a resident of Barona village in Kharkhoda. He sustained a bullet injury to his leg during the encounter.The police admitted the accused to the civil hospital, from where he was referred to Bhagat Phool Singh Medical College for Women at Khanpur for further treatment.
According to police records, Ravi has an extensive criminal history, with over a dozen cases registered against him, including murder, attempted murder, dacoity, robbery, extortion and other heinous crimes, in various police stations across Delhi and Haryana. A combined reward of Rs 45,000 had been announced for his arrest.
Acting on a tip-off, Inspector Ajay Dhankar, In-charge of SUAG, along with two police teams, laid a trap on the service road near Kharkhoda bypass on NH-334B close to the Barona village turn. During the operation, information was received that a suspect had breached a police naka and was heading in their direction.
The police tried to intercept him, but he veered onto a kachha road and fell. He tried to flee and fired two rounds at the police. Inspector Ajay fired back, injuring the suspect in the leg. The police team apprehended him.
The accused was discharged from the hospital and taken into custody. He will be produced before the court on Sunday.
