A 21-year-old student pursuing BDS at Rayat Bahra Dental College and Hospital in Mohali allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling at her house today.
In her suicide note, the victim, Meenal Chhabra alleged that she was being harassed by the college authorities, and that she could not bear the torture anymore.
The police have booked two faculty members, Smriti Bansal and Neeraj Taneja, under Section 306 (abetment of suicide) of the IPC on the complaint of victim’s father Raj Kumar Chhabra.
Raj Kumar alleged that the two faculty members were biased against hhis daughter and were repeatedly telling her to repeat her semester.
College refutes charge
College spokesman Sanjiv Tejpal claimed neither the victim nor her parents had approached the principal with a complaint. “We are shocked to learn about the incident. An inquiry will be conducted and strict action will be taken if anybody is found guilty,” he said.
Around 11 am, Meenal’s brother Harman noticed that it had been long since his sister stepped out of her room. He knocked on the door, but she failed to respond. He then peeped from a window, only to find that the victim had hanged herself to death. The deceased’s parents were at their workplace then.
