160 law students awarded degrees

The fifth convocation of Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL) was held on its campus here on today.
Justice Hemant Gupta, Judge, Supreme Court of India, was the chief guest. Justice Uday Umesh Lalit, Judge, Supreme Court of India and visitor, RGNUL, presided over the function, along with, Atul Nanda, Advocate General, Punjab.
As many as 160 students of the university were awarded degrees by the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court and Chancellor, RGNUL, Justice Krishna Murari. As many as 116 degrees of BA LLB (Hons), 42 degrees of LLM and two degrees of Doctor of Philosophy were conferred upon the students.
Justice Hemant Gupta, Judge, Supreme Court of India, underscored the relevance of the university’s vision to prepare competent professional lawyers and to prepare socially responsible citizens. He said water conservation should find space in the curriculum. He advised the students to build a moral compass within which to operate to further construct the edifice of moral and ethical behaviour.
As many as 10 meritorious students received special medals, (instituted and endowed) for outstanding performance in 11 different categories, academic and co-curricular activities.
Lovepreet Kaur, Shireen Singh and Taruna Nayyar were awarded RGNUL medal of excellence in specialiation.
Prof (Dr) Paramjit S Jaswal, Vice-Chancellor, RGNUL, presented the annual report of the institute. Chancellor’s Medal was awarded to Souradeep Mukhopadhyay, while Vice-Chancellor’s Medal was received by Jigyasa Sharma, KS Roshan Menon and Purvi Nanda.
