Srinagar, January 7

The J&K Police have arrested two persons and recovered demonetised currency of Rs 50 lakh from their possession in Srinagar.

A police party of Baghiyas police post led by Sub-Inspector Ajaz Ahmad apprehended two persons during checking near Batboni Baghiyas and recovered the demonetised currency from their possession, the police said.

The accused were identified as Nazir Ahmad Rather of Syedpora, Rafiabad and Akeel Ahmad Khan of Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh.

“Accordingly, cognisance was taken under The Specified Bank Notes (Cessation of Liabilities) Act, 2017, and further investigation was started in the case. The accused persons will be presented before the court for judicial determination,” a police spokesman said.
