40 auto-rickshaws challaned, impounded

JALANDHAR: Tightening the noose around illegal auto-rickshaws plying in the city, the transport and police departments, along with Municipal Corporation of Jalandhar (MCJ), today impounded 40 auto-rickshaws flouting norms in the city.

Tightening the noose around illegal auto-rickshaws plying in the city, the transport and police departments, along with Municipal Corporation of Jalandhar (MCJ), today impounded 40 auto-rickshaws flouting norms in the city.

In a joint operation, teams of both departments, along with civic body, led by secretary, Regional Transport Authority, Dr Nayan Jassal, Assistant Commissioner of Police Vaibhav Sehgal and MC superintendent Mandeep Singh held a special checking of auto-rickshaws at Bhagwan Valmiki (Jyoti) Chowk, Dr BR Ambedkar (Nakodar) Chowk, Sri Ram (Company Bagh) Chowk and other places.

During the inspection, the officials conducted the checking of the auto-rickshaws and checked their documents. The team issued challans and impounded 40 vehicles for violation of traffic norms.

The vehicles that were issued challans or impounded included those without permit, relevant documents, driving license and those plying in areas not permissible to them.

Meanwhile, Dr. Jassal and Sehgal said the drive would continue in the coming days and anyone found violating the norms would not be spared.

They also said strict action would be taken to stop the violation of traffic rules and for streamlining the movement of traffic in the city.
