Despite warning from the Maharashtra Government threatening action against anyone eulogising Nathuram Godse, the assassin of Mahatma Gandhi, the Hindu Mahasabha has decided to go ahead with a film on his life.

"The film on Godse's life will be released on January 30," Dinesh Bhogale, spokesperson for Hindu Mahasabha said. The Father of the Nation was assassinated by Godse on January 30, 1948.

According to Bhogale, the Hindu Mahasabha has been observing 'Shaurya Diwas' on November 15, the day Godse was hanged to death for Gandhiji's assassination.

Congress MP Hussain Dalwai had pointed out that BJP leader Sakshi Maharaj was not the first member of the Sangh parivar to praise Godse. The Hindu Mahasabha, he said, has been observing Nathuram Godse’s death anniversary for years.

According to Bhogale, the Hindu Mahasabha has kept Godse's ashes as per his last wish to immerse them in the Sindhu river now in Pakistan.

Members of the Hindu Mahasabha have been observing 'Shaurya Diwas' in many places where they have some following. Many of its activists are members of the BJP and other wings of the Sangh Parivar.
