The Health Department today denied claims of the Joint Platform of Mass Organisations (JPMO) regarding the death of a Class II student of a private school due to dengue.

“The state committee to review the dengue deaths has confirmed only one death due to the disease so far. We had received reports of two such deaths, but one was not confirmed,” said district epidemiologist Dr Madan Mohan.

He said they had contacted the authorities at the private hospital where the death of the child was claimed to have occurred. “The hospital categorically stated that no child suffering from dengue was admitted at their hospital,” he said.

Earlier, the JPMO had demanded from the state government to send teams of doctors to schools to check the students for dengue. The organisation spokesperson Jarmanjit Singh Bath said Parminder Singh, a student of Choghawan Sadhpur, had died due to dengue.
