The Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) has extended the date for downloading the Swachhta mobile app till March 10. Earlier, it was February 28.

Municipal Health Officer (MOH) Dr Raju Chowan confirmed the development and urged the residents to make the most of this opportunity. “Now we have 10 more days. We can achieve the target of 23,500 downloads. We will get 150 marks under the Swachh Sarvekshan 2018,” he said.

Since Wednesday was the last day as per earlier announcement, the Municipal Corporation (MC) got good response and achieved 6 per cent target (with respect to total number of households) of downloading of app today. More than 1,000 residents downloaded Swachhta applications in the last 24 hours. The local NGOs have also campaigned to increase the number of downloads.

According to MC officials, the Central Government has asked to engage 10 per cent households by downloading of Swachhta application. The city has required 23,500 respondents to achieve the 10 per cent target. In case the city achieves it, the Centre awards 150 points to it in the ‘Swachh Sarvekshan 2018’.

Despite efforts, the Municipal Corporation failed to achieve it so the officials concerned had decided to achieve at least 6 per cent target (13,300 households). Officials said 13,180 residents had downloaded the Swachhta application till 5 pm on Wednesday. After getting instructions about rescheduling of the last day, the MC officials are now again hopeful to achieve the target.

Dr Raju Chowan said, “We are expecting that 180 more households will download the application till midnight. It is a sad state of affairs that 10 per cent households are not coming forward to download the app.”

MC Commissioner Sonali Giri has also asked the residents to download the application to achieve target.
