Amritsar, April 20
Alleging step motherly treatment to Majha region, especially the holy city of Amritsar, the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary, Jasbir Singh Dimpa, said the SAD-BJP government headed by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal would pay a heavy price in the forthcoming Assembly elections.
In a statement here today, Dimpa accused Badal government for scuttling various projects initiated by the UPA government led by former Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh. He alleged that whatever project was sanctioned by the current dispensation at the Centre headed by Modi was given only to Bathinda constituency represented by Harsimrat Kaur Badal.
While giving details, he alleged that Rs 1,400 crore project for setting up world-class university at Amritsar could not see the light of the day as the Badal government did not provide the required land for the same. Similarly, the move of establishing special economic zone here was foiled.
He said one IIT given to the holy city by Dr Singh was shifted to Ropar. Similarly, the UPA government’s move for setting up of software technology park could not materialise as the state government failed to deposit its 10 per cent share, he added.
He alleged the Punjab government was making all efforts to discourage more flights at Guru Ram Dass Jee International by enhancing landing charges for incoming flights and imposing 22 per cent cess on air fuel. It had constructed another international airport in Chandigarh, he added.
He said, “Dr Singh had passed another project to establish international convention centre in Amritsar and funds were transferred in the account of Punjab government, but till today nobody knows where the money has gone.”
