Two persons have been killed in separate road mishaps in the holy city.
Ramesh Kumar (40), a resident of Rajasansi, lost his life after a speeding car hit his bike in Rajasansi late on Friday evening. Deepak Sharma, brother-in-law of the deceased, stated to the police that he was going to Bal Sikander village and Ramesh was travelling on another motorcycle. He said when they reached near Airport Colony, a “speeding” car (PB-02-CF-5929), coming from Amritsar side, hit Ramesh’s bike, leaving him critically injured.
According to Deepak, the car driver tried to run away, but he stopped him from doing so. He said Ramesh was immediately rushed to a private hospital in the accused’s car where he succumbed to his injuries. The accused has been identified as Param Kohari. He fled after leaving them at the hospital.
The police have registered a case under Sections 304-A, 279 and 427 of the IPC against Kohari. He is yet to be arrested.
In another mishap, Madho Baba lost his life after an unknown vehicle hit him near Mohkampura. He had been living in a vacant plot for the past 25 years. At around 8 pm on Thursday, local residents found him critically injured. He had sustained serious head injuries. He was rushed to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital where doctors declared him dead. The police have registered a case against unknown persons in this connection.
