4 snatchers held in separate incidents

The city police claimed to have arrested four snatchers in two separate incidents on Friday. Those arrested were identified as Mandeep Singh and Dharminder Singh, residents of Jhhitan Kalan village, besides Bharat and Sahil of Sandhu Colony, located on the Majitha road, here.

The Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), East, Prabhjot Singh Virk, said Mandeep and Dharminder were nabbed when they snatched the purse of young girl identified as Sakshi near Anand Nagar on the Batala road here on Thursday. Sakshi resisted the attempt of snatchers. She did not let go of her purse and fell on the road. The accused dragged her to a distance before the pillion rider fell down. The accused driving the motorcycle also lost balance and fell to the ground. Onlookers gathered at the spot and caught hold of both the accused. They were later handed over to the police.

Similarly, officials of the Rambagh police station nabbed Bharat and Sahil and claimed to have recovered mobile phone, which the accused had snatched from Sanjiv Kumar of the Sharifpura area on March 11. During investigation, the accused stated that Ghatcha, a resident of the Hussainpura area was also with them during snatching. The ACP said raids were on to arrest him.

The accused were brought on police remand and further interrogation was underway, he added.

“More recoveries are likely to be made during further course of investigation. Separate cases under Sections 379-B and 411 of the IPC have registered against the accused,” the ACP said.
