With last date for enrollment in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) format (March 15) inching closer, the industry related inter-face programmes of the Excise and Taxation Department have picked up a pace. Officials want to save themselves and traders from the last minute rush.
Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu, Deputy Excise and Taxation Commissioner, said so far nearly 40 per cent registered VAT dealers had enrolled themselves under the GST. He said, “As many as 7,301 dealers have enrolled under the GST out of a total of 19,192 VAT dealers.”
He said a technical workshop to remove doubts and fears of registered dealers would be held at Bachat Bhawan on February 28. The department in league with industrial associations is also meeting VAT dealers to encourage them to enlist for the GST. One such programme was held at Focal Point today. Kamal Dalmia, patron-in-chief, Focal Point Industrial Welfare Association, said, his association hwas appealing to businessmen to enlist under the GST to avoid last day pressure.
