550 cyclists’ rally to mark Guru Nanak’s Parkash Purb

To mark the 550th Parkash Purb celebrations of Guru Nanak Dev, equal number of cyclists participated in a state-level rally that commenced here to Dera Baba Nanak today. Organised by the Sports Department, the rally was flagged off by Sports and Youth Services Minister Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi at the Golden Gate.

The minister stated that the rally would cover 65 km, passing through Majitha bypass and Fatehgarh Churian before concluding at Dera Baba Nanak. The cyclists would be honoured with medallions as well as certificates.

He stated that the founder of Sikhism gave the message of ‘Kirat Karo, Naam Japo, Wand Chhako’. “Opening of Sri Kartarpur Sahib Corridor will certainly end the long wait of sangat to visit the holy place,” he remarked.

Rana Sodhi said the celebration of such pious occasions connected the modern day youth with their age old culture and heritage. He also said the state government would spare no effort to turn these celebrations into memorable ones and also that all parties must come together to celebrate the occasion.

In his address, Medical Education and Research Minister OP Soni said the rally carried the golden message of peace and harmony. He also elaborated that the state government had made the necessary arrangements, including wheelchairs for the divyangs (physically challenged).

Among those present were MLAs Sunil Dutti, Dharmveer Agnihotri, Harminder Singh Gill, Additional Chief Secretary (Sports) Sanjay Kumar, Deputy Commissioner Shivdullar Singh Dhillon, Additional Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Aggarwal and Police Commissioner Sukhchain Singh Gill.
