6 booked for firing

Tarn Taran: As many as six persons of Rataul village, 10 km from here, have been booked in connection with a firing incident that took place four days ago. ASI Satpal Singh, who heads the Duburji police post, said four of them — Harjit Singh Ghulla, Baljit Singh, Sawinder Singh and Gurjant Singh — had been identified. Complainant Sukhwinder Singh alleged that they fired at his house damaging the doors. They also threatened to kill him, he said. No one has been arrested. Sections 336, 427, 506, 148, 149 of the IPC, 25, 27, 54, 59 of the Arms Act have been slapped.

5 hurt in mishap

Jalandhar: Nearly five people were injured after a bus and truck collided in Panchranga, Jalandhar, late on Wednesday evening. The bus that was going towards Bhogpur tried to overtake a vehicle when the mishap took place. Bhogpur SHO Surjit Singh said the injured were taken to different hospitals in Kala Bakra from where they were referred to Civil Hospital, Jalandhar. The statements of injured were being recorded, the police said. — TNS

Two booked for encroachment

Tarn Taran: The Patti Sadar police have booked two residents of Kairon village for allegedly encroaching upon a piece of land of a village school. Manjit Singh and Gurnam Singh were booked on the complaint of Gurpartap Singh, headmaster of the school. He said the accused tilled the school land to encroach it.

Police, DAPOs hold meet

Tarn Taran: The drug-addicts in the state wouldn't face criminal cases and they would be treated on par with other patients by the police, said Balkar Singh Sidhu, IG, Special Task Force (STF), and IG Rampal while interacting with 40 of the registered Drug Abuse Prevention Officers (DAPOs) in the district on Wednesday. The meeting was held a day before Capt Amarinder Singh's visit. The officials also took feedback from the DAPOs. The state governemnt would open 140 deaddiction centres, the officials said.

Man booked for mining

Amritsar: The Ajnala police booked a person for illegal mining in Ballarwal village on Tuesday. He has been identified as Gurnam Singh. The case was registered on the complaint of Parshotam Kumar, Mining Officer, Ajnala. He said that during his visit to Ballarwal village, he found an illegal sand quarry. After looking into the revenue records, he found that the land was registered in the name of Gurnam Singh. Section 21 (1) of the Mining Act has been slapped on him. He hasn't been arrested yet.

Artistes for world record

Jalandhar: The World Bhangra Association team is all geared up to break the Guinness World Record as bhangra dancers from all over the world will be performing at the same time on the same platform. The attempt to create a new record will be initiated on November 1 this year at Lovely Professional University. Previously, the Sant Nirankari Mission had unsuccessfully tried to create such a record on August 10, 2012 in West Midlands. TNS
