The police on Sunday claimed to have busted a gang of snatchers with the arrest of seven persons, including the kingpin, from the 88 FT Road area. The police also recovered 550 habit-forming pills and 20 mobiles phones, which were snatched from various areas of the city.
The suspects have been identified as Rahul, alias Murgi; Jagpreet Singh, alias Kishan; Lovepreet Singh, alias Kalta; Gobind Singh, alias Budha; Sajan, alias Ravi Aulakh; and Ishu, all residents of 88 FT Road area, and Harman, alias Dolly, of Mustfabad.
Sub-Inspector Baljinder Singh said the suspects were held at a naka laid by the CIA staff on Saturday evening. During a search, the police recovered 550 habit-forming pills, three motorcycles and 20 snatched mobile phones.
The police said the suspected used to target bike-borne commuters when they were attending phone calls.
A case under Sections 22, 61 and 85 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and Sections 379 and 411 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against the suspects.
