The women wing of the Aam Admi Party (AAP) in Amritsar initiated a signature campaign here today. AAP volunteers took signatures of women so as to involve each one of them in party activities and take the campaign to every household in the city.

The signature drive was led by party’s state women wing vice-president Gurminder Kaur Bamra.

The campaign highlighted burgeoning societal issues like rampant corruption, drugs menace, crime against women, cable and sand mafia, besides harassment of the common man due to the callous attitude of the ruling SAD-BJP combine.

Bamra said, “Women play an important role in taking society towards prosperity. At times they have not even hesitated to lead from the front while defending the nation.”

She said, “Now, when AAP’s convener Arvind Kejriwal has initiated the drive to end corruption in society, it becomes moral duty of every woman of this country to join this crusade and free Punjab from dishonesty, drugs and mafia of all sorts.”

A member of women cell, Surinder Kanwal, said, “Under this signature campaign, party volunteers will approach women in every household. They will make them aware of achievements of the AAP government in Delhi”.

She added that, each volunteer would be given a constituency so that no house was left out. She said women would be made aware of issues and their suggestions to solve them would be welcomed by the party.

Bamra said contrary to claims of the state government, youth of Punjab was drifting towards drugs due to non-availability of employment opportunities. The rise in crime rate was also attributable to the same reason, she addded.

“Keeping this in mind, AAP will intensify the campaign and ensure that every woman in Punjab contributes for cleansing the corrupt system in the state,” she said.
