Introducing the concept of repertory theatre in association with the Tagore Theatre, Chandigarh administration has taken up the task to promote professional theatre movement. And with the lead actress of the debut play production “Agni Aur Barkha” being an administrative officer herself, the intent seems clear.

Presenting the acclaimed play by Girish Karnad, “Agni Aur Varsha” (the fire and the rain) directed by Rani Balbir Kaur, the drama repertory’s first performance in Amritsar received a rousing applause from the audience at Punjab Natshala. Based on a tale from Mahabharata, the play presented the principles of Vedic life with modern relevance. A lucid narration of human deceit, betrayal, jealousy and revenge, it marked the stage debut of Bhavna Garg, IAS, additional secretary finance, who played the lead.
