Sri Guru Ram Das Jee International Airport is all set to get one more Running Visual Range (RVR) instrument installed by the end of February.
Amritsar Airport officiating director Gagan Malik talking to the Amritsar Tribune stated this. The airport already has two RVR instruments for updated visibility readings along the runway.
He elaborated that a continuous endeavour of the AAI was to provide world-class facilities at the Amritsar Airport and its upgrading is being given a major impetus for passenger facilitation and safe operations.
In the process, the special radar Advanced Surface Movement Guidance Control System was going to be installed shortly. The main feature of the radar was that the air-traffic controllers could easily observe any aircraft, which was moving on the surface while taxing for take off or after landing even in dense fog.
Further, work was already in hand for upgrading the present CAT-II services to CAT-III B services, which would extend its service to a greater height when aircrafts could land and take off even with a visibility of 50 metres.
In addition, the ground-lighting facility was also being upgraded for the smooth and the safe movement of the aircraft during the fog season.
In the process of enhanced air-traffic services, one more radar was coming up shortly for better air space management around Amritsar. The main feature of this radar was better control of aircraft in air and its surveillance for safe movement due to proximity of this airport with the International Border.
After taking over as the officiating director of the airport, Malik, about sometime back, got the entire operational area of the airport rid of wild growth. In the recent inspection by the Director-General Civil Aviation (DGCA), the airport was adjudged up to the mark for its operational area and facilities.
Keeping in view the high-alert situation across the country, a special drive is being carried out on the city side of the airport through sniffer dogs and high-end detection equipment to prevent any mischief by the miscreants. To further enhance security, a special equipment known as a blast container has been delivered to this airport.
A contract is already in place to control the bird and the animal menace. He said an information counter, specifically for disseminating information about any delay, diversion or cancellation had also been set up on the city side to assist the passengers and their relatives as well.
In addition to this, a 24-hour helpline no. 9888398888 is also available at the airport for all users.
