Akhar comes up with sixth edition

‘Akhar’ a Punjabi quarterly magazine released its sixth edition in the presence of its editors and a team of writers. The magazine published by late Punjabi poet Parminderjit, who was also the recipient of Shiromani Kavi Award, has significant history and is among the few left Punjabi magazines in the country.

Akhar’s latest edition has a team of contributors, including renowned writers Karnail Singh, who is based in UK, Parminder Sodhi among others. “The magazine has been doing well since the sudden demise of Parminderjit, three years back as we had to plan out the financial and literary viability of the magazine. But Akhar has managed to stand on its own, thanks to our contributors and team of editors and writers,” said Dr Vikram, writer and one of the executive members of the magazine.

The sixth edition of the magazine comprises of essays and critical columns about socio-political issues in the state, Punjabi and Hindi poetry, and also lays out the major happenings in the field of literature.

The magazine has a history of four decades behind it and it is considered to maintain the creative standards all through the years. Its first print came out in 1975 and was discontinued for publication during the emergency period in Punjab. It struggled through some financial constraints during the late eighties and was restarted in 1992.
