Amritsar-Singapore flight from next year

After securing all necessary licenses and NoCs, Scoot Airline will launch flight between Amritsar and Singapore from next year.
A six-member delegation of Singapore-based Scoot Airline, a low cost airline of famous Singapore Airline, concluded their two-day visit to study feasibility to start flights between Amritsar and Singapore from Sri Guru Ramdas Jee International Airport here today.
Amritsar airport director Venkateshwar Rao said it was a preliminary visit of the airline team. They visited the airport complex and observed various operations and found these at par with global standards.
He said the visiting officials assured them to launch the flight from summer after fulfilling all necessary formalities.
Besides, many more airlines are carrying out feasibility study to initiate airlink from Amritsar. While refusing to give details Rao added that they were actively pursuing the matter with various national and international airlines to start operations from Amritsar airport.
Rao said, “It is indeed heartening that the holy city is yet again on the radar of international airlines for direct connectivity with important destinations.”
Airport advisory committee member Gunbir Singh said flight to Singapore would open a new tourist circuit with Amritsar. He added that it would enable travel for students and visitors to and from Australia, South East Asia, China, Hong Kong as well as West coast America and Canada.
Earlier, Singapore Airlines had launched thrice a week Amritsar-Singapore flight on October 1, 2004. The service ran well for five years before being discontinued in 2009.
