A scrumptious and traditional Amritsari sweet khajoor, which is particularly prepared near the festival of Lohri, has arrived in markets of the city.
The sweet is available in the local markets from the last week of December till Lohri, making it a novelty for the local residents. With winter are at its peak, it is surely catching the eyes of a lot of visitors.
Khajoor is made exclusively in Amritsar. It is made of flour which is fried in ghee. The product is then kept in a cool place for selling it and can last for a week.
“We have started preparing khajoors. It is a part of our annual event. People eagerly wait to enjoy them in the winter as well on the festival of Lohri,” said Anil, the owner of a local sweet shop.
At present, they are available from Rs 300-500 at various sweets shops in the city. “People have already started coming to our shop to purchase them. Apart from this, the traditional ‘bhuga’ is also catching the eyes of the visitors, said a worker of a famous popular sweets shop.
Every year a number of residents can be seen enjoying the sweet. Manpreet Kaur, who was buying them for her father-in-law said, “My father-in-law loves it. Though he is a diabetic but he can’t avoid his favorite delicacy which only comes once a year.”
Reenu, a housewife, said, “Rewaris, pinnis and halwa all are my favorite, but the taste of khajoor is out of the world. The way the sweet dish melts in the mouth is amazing.”
