As the apheresis machine at the Government Medical College (GMC) has been lying defunct, the Health Department has asked the authorities concerned to get it functional in view of the dengue season. The machine is used to extract platelets which are the common requirement for patients as platelet count decreases drastically during disease in patients.

District Epidemiologist Dr Madan Mohan said though no case of dengue had been reported from the district so far, the department couldn’t sit and relax. “We have to be prepared for every situation,” he said. — TNS
