For the first time, the birth anniversary of Guru Ram Das is being celebrated at Sri Guru Ramdas Jee International Airport here. Airport director Venkasteshwar Rao said, “The airport derives its name from the founder of the holy city. So, we have decided to celebrate the gurpurb with full devotion.”
He said the entire terminal and approach road to the airport, right from the welcome gate, had been illuminated with decorative lights on the eve of gurpurb. The glass building of the terminal offered a mesmerising look.
He said all passengers and employees working at the terminal would be offered packed langar tomorrow. Employees of all agencies, including the Airport Authority of India (AAI), private and state airlines, ground-handling companies at the local terminal have contributed to foot the expenses of community kitchen.
Meanwhile, educational institutes also celebrated gupurb on their premises here today. Students of Shri Ram Ashram Public School celebrated gurpurb with fervour. A special assembly was held by students of Class IX and X. The programme started with the chanting of shabad by students, who also emphasised on the inspirational life and teachings of the spiritual guru. “There are as many as 688 shabads of Guru Ram Das in the Guru Granth Sahib,” they said.
Students of Sri Guru Harkrishan Public School celebrated gurpurb. Competitions and activities like essay writing competition were organised on the occasion. Students of KG also took part in the celebrations. They recited poems highlighting the life, teachings and other achievements of the guru’s life.
