BBK DAV College principal honoured

Amritsar: Pushpinder Walia, Principal, BBK DAV College for Women, was honoured with a special recognition award by the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Boxing Club on the occasion of Teacher's Day for her outstanding contribution in the field of academics and sports. Sudarshan Kapoor, chairman, local managing committee, and Swaraj Grover, social worker, Sweety Bala, head, department of physical education and staff members, Baldev Raj Dev, president, Baljinder Singh Mattu, organising secretary, Sheheed Bhagat Singh Boxing Club and Gurinder Singh Mattu, president of Maan Dhiyan Te Samaj Bhalai Society, Amritsar, congratulated the principal. She has also been elected president, sports committee (women), GNDU, for 2019-20 session at a meeting held at the university campus. TNS

Session on career guidance

Amritsar: Bhavan's Sl Public School organised a career guidance session for the students of classes IX and X on Tuesday. Dr Rajneesh Arora, former vice-chancellor, PTU, was the resource person. Director Principal Anita Bhalla extended floral welcome to Rajneesh Arora on behalf of school management. He dispelled the doubts and qualms students had regarding career options as per their interest and stream of academics. The resource person answered the queries in the interactive session. He further informed about various career options available under different streams after class X in schools, colleges and universities across the country and abroad. TNS

Financial education workshop

Amritsar: The post-graduate department of commerce and business administration, Khalsa College, on Tuesday organised a workshop on financial education awareness in which resource persons Kuldeep Thareja, senior manager, National Institute of Securities Market, Mumbai, stressed on safe investments plans. He highlighted the significance of savings and investment in securities and precautions to be taken by individuals while making investments. Bhagwant Singh Sidhu, a trainer at Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) also gave tips of investments in stocks and practical training to students about investment plans associated with securities market. The workshop was planned and executed under the supervision of principal Mehal Singh, said Dr Avtar Singh. Dr AK Kahlon, dean, commerce, Dr Ajay Sehgal, workshop coordinator, said the aim was to apprise the students and staff about the latest in the subject. TNS

Save water and trees

Amritsar: An activity on saving water was conducted with the students of primary and upper primary wing of Spring Dale Senior School on Tuesday to help children connect with and care about water in our environment. The children poured the left over water from their water bottles in a bucket which will be reused for various cleaning purposes. It was followed by a pledge to save water by reducing water consumption and by using it more wisely. TNS

Students shine in badminton c’ship

Amritsar: Students of DAV Public School have proved their mettle in the recently held district school badminton championship.The tournament was organised by the District Education Department at Badminton Hall, Taylor Road, Amritsar. Students from 10 zones participated in the championship. DAV students bagged the first position in U-19 and U-14 boys’ category, and won gold in U-17 girls’ category. The school students also won second position in U-14 girls and U-17 boys’ category, respectively.  The following students have been selected for the state badminton championship to be held in Sangrur from September 26 to October 1.
