The Bhagat Puran Singh Institute of Special Needs was inaugurated at Manawala on Monday.
Dr Inderjit Kaur, director, All India Pingalwara Charitable Society, said, “The aim is to empower special and dumb-deaf kids by preparing future educators for them. The school is going to offer a two-year diploma course for the aspirants.”
Amarjit Singh, member of Punjab Special Olympic State Handicapped Advisory Board, said, “I appreciate the step taken by the authorities of the society. This is one of its kind initiative taken by Dr Inderjit Kaur.”
The courses are affiliated with the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI). These courses will be available only for girls and they will be provided hands-on training with the inmates of Pingalwara. The authorities will be hiring specialised teachers to teach the students. — TNS
