To commemorate the 145th birth anniversary of the Punjabi poet laureate, Chief Khalsa Diwan Charitable Society (CKDCS) organised a programme at Guru Arjan Dev Auditorim of Sri Guru Harkrishan Public School today.

Chief guest on the occasion was Davinder Pal Singh Kharbanda, Deputy Commissioner, Tarn Taran, and Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina, pro-Chancellor, was the guest of honour.

The CKDCS president, Charanjit Singh Chadha, threw light on the life and achievements of voice of renaissance Bhai Veer Singh. He said Bhai Veer Singh played a significant role in the foundation of Chief Khalsa Diwan (CKD).

Stage secretary, Dr Jaswinder Singh Dhillon, welcomed the guests. Dr SP Singh, former VC of GNDU, briefed participants on contributions made by Bhai Veer Singh in the field of Punjabi poetry and literature.

A book “Bhai Veer Singh – An introduction” written by Dr Harchand Singh Bedi, director, Bhai Veer Singh Research Centre, along with a new edition of “Nirguniara” and “Khalsa Advocate” published by the Khalsa Tract Society, was released on the occasion.

The decision to link up Bhai Veer Singh Research Centre with Khalsa University was welcomed by Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina. The CKDCS honoured Davinder Pal Singh Kharbanda and Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina on the occasion.

Known as the sixth river of Punjab for his tremendous contribution to Punjabi literature, Bhai Veer Singh’s residence on the busy Lawrence road has been converted into a museum.

Winners of various competitions, including poetry elocution, speech and poster making related with the life of the Punjabi poet were honoured on the occasion.

A short Punjabi play directed by Narinder Sanghi showcasing the life, contribution and achievements of Bhai Veer Singh was also staged during celebrations.
