A prominent board placed on the top of the historic Gandhi Gate, also known as Hall Gate, is in a state of neglect.

‘Amritsar Sifti Da Ghar’ was written in Punjabi on the board. Now, the word ‘Amritsar’ has been partially broken, appearing ‘Sifti Da Ghar’ for residents and tourists. The clock in the centre of the gate is also not working.

The gate has special relevance to the holy city as people enter the heritage gate to reach the Golden Temple. With the passage of time, it has become a symbol of rich culture and heritage of the city. The old heritage gate is also one of the ways that leads to various markets.

Manish Kumar, a shopkeeper, said, “Yes, I also noticed that the Amritsar is not visible properly. This is an important gate, especially when a large number of tourists enter the place. Only those tourists can read it who know Punjabi. However, the issue has to be resolved.”
