The foot overbridge outside the railway station has been rendered useless as the road divider has been broken illegally to construct a crossing just outside the main entrance.

Instead of using the foot overbridge for safety, the passengers can be seen using the illegal crossing on the road which witnesses heavy traffic. By using the illegal crossing, the passengers not only pose a risk to their own lives but also cause the traffic to slow down.

Initially, the road divider— built of concrete— was around three feet high and had another three feet of iron grill to ensure that people cannot cross over to the other side. However, the grill has been removed and even the concrete structure has been demolished.

“People seldom use the foot overbridge which was meant for safe crossing to the other side. Most people prefer to use the illegal crossing. By doing so, they risk their own lives and those of others but people prefer the easy path,” said Janak Raj, a shopkeeper.

While a police check-post is nearby, thousands of people entering or coming out of the railway station cross the road daily, ignoring the presence of a safe foot overbridge.

The residents stated that people who cause damage to public property should be stopped as many such dividers in the city have been broken to create passages which are not safe and give a bad look to the city.
