BRTS begins to find favour with passengers in city

The Metro Bus Service being run under the Bus Rapid Transits System (BRTS) has been witnessing rise in the ridership after the Punjab Bus Metro Society (PBMS) had started charging for tickets from Sunday.

On Tuesday, the number of passenger rose to 40,000 while on Monday, 30,000 passengers used the services.

When free ridership was offered, the number of passengers touched 80,000 per day.

Inderjit Singh Chawla, Chief Executive Officer said, “We are expecting that the ridership will touch 40,000 by the end of the day.”

Initially, the BRTS officials were facing issues with programming of smart cards.

The general public gets 20 per cent discount, college students get 66 per cent discount, school students enjoy 100 per cent discount while senior citizen get 50 per cent discount if they purchase tickets through smart card.

“Software programming is taking some time. Everything will be sorted out within a couple of days. Then we will focus to increase the ridership and extension of services,” added Chawla.
