In a major plantation drive, the Border Security Force (BSF) planted more than 4 lakh saplings of different trees on its campus across the nation in order to mark its year-long golden jubilee celebrations.

The effort was to eclipse its previous record of planting 3.09 lakh saplings, which were planted last year. The BSF had entered into the Limca Book of Records by planting these trees in 30 minutes.

Anil Paliwal, IG BSF (Punjab frontier), launched the drive at Khasa headquarters here today. While speaking to mediapersons, he said during the half-hour campaign across the nation, the Punjab frontier planted as many as 30,500 trees on its various campuses across the state.

He said, “Besides celebrating the golden jubilee of its raising day, the main motive of the BSF behind this mass campaign is to motivate people to grow more and more trees in order to thwart hazardous effects of global warming and climate change caused by mindless deforestation.” Over 4 lakh trees were planted at all establishments across the country by the BSF in just 30-minutes, he added.

DIG, BSF (Amritsar sector), MF Farooqui said, “We should endeavour to awaken the conscience of the people and generate public response by motivating them to do their bit to save mother earth by planting more and more trees. Our aim is to plant around 40 lakh saplings and the responsibility of maintaining them is also with us.”

He said, “We will hold awareness programmes to educate the border population about the demerits of global warming and deforestation in future also. We will also make them aware them about the benefits of clean and green environment for the generations to come. They will be encouraged to plant more trees and indulge in environment conservation activities.”
