Chhina flays state govt
Amritsar, March 9
BJP leader Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina has accused Capt Amarinder Singh-led state government of failing to submit details to the Centre regarding farmers for annual relief worth Rs 6,000 as per provisions made during the recently unveiled Union budget. He said the state government hadn’t submitted the account details of the farmers who fall in the category which would impact lakhs of farming families in Punjab.
He said the government hadn’t not brought any respite to the distressed farming community. “Among the big announcements made in the Centre’s Budget was the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi, a scheme that will give farmers with landholdings below two hectares Rs 6,000 annually, which will be transferred to farmers in three instalments of Rs 2,000 each. The first instalment will be paid by March 31, 2019 but the state government hasn’t despatched the details of the eligible farmers,” he said. He said a Central Government’s team, headed by Union Joint Secretary, Agriculture, Abhilaksh Likhi, had held a meeting with agriculture officials of Punjab seeking details of eligible farmers. — TNS
