‘Chhoti Sardarni’ highlights woman’s suffering
Amritsar, July 24
Love, faith and betrayal, the three emotions that are now synonymous with most love stories, whether classic or modern. When in love, everything seems right and logical, but when suddenly faced with the reality of it all, what does one do?
The play, ‘Chhoti Sardarni’, which was staged at the art gallery, was presented by artistes of the Indian Academy of Fine Arts (IAFA) in the evening here today.
Written and directed by theatre and film actor Deep Mandeep, the play narrated a story of a woman, who forgets workings of the real world, when she gets into a relationship with a married man. He, despite his marital status and two children, manages to keep his family in India a secret from her and makes her pregnant.
But, once everything comes out in the open, she (an NRI living in London), travels to India, to his native village and starts a life, in hope to get him to accept her one day. That’s when she becomes the ‘Choti Sardarni’, a symbolism of the other woman here. — TNS
