City-born and bred girl Harkarman Preet Kaur has brought laurels to her family by becoming one of the winners at The Miss Australia Punjaban pageant. The event is held every year to celebrate cultural ethos of Punjabiyat and Punjabis residing in Australia. Harkarman was pursuing master’s degree in accounting from Melbourne and won the title of second runner-up at the prestigious annual event.
The young beauty had been active in theatre circuit in the city, being part of more than 100 plays staged at Punjab Natshala and was a student of BBKDAV college. She has also won the title of Miss Intelligent and her performance in Punjabi folk art also got her the People’s choice honour at the pageant. Her family expressed their happiness over her win and said that their daughter, an only child, has set an example that girls are achievers in every field. They said that she dedicated her win to her mentors Jatinder Brar, her teachers Reena and Santokh Singh Sethi, who is also a member of the Chief Khalsa Diwan. Punjab Natshala’s Jatinder Brar too congratulated her on her success. “She was a very talented artiste and a dedicated professional. Winning an overseas event is a big accomplishment of the city girl,” he said.
