City girl and international level netball player Harmandeep Kaur was honoured by the DEO and other officials after she returned with a gold medal at the first International Unified Netball Olympics held in Puducherry recently.

A student of Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Mall road, Harmandeep was part of the Indian team that beat Sri Lanka to win the finals at the tournament. District Education Officer (DEO) Salwinder Singh and school head Mandeep Kaur congratulated the player on her successful outing and lauded the efforts of the players, including those with disabilities for their performance.

“It is commendable that these girls have brought laurels to the country through their exceptional performance. Such players should be encouraged with all kinds of necessary support,” he said.

Notably, Rajwant Kaur, a special athlete from Pingalwara was also a part of the winning Indian team at the tournament. Suffering from Intellectual disability, Rajwant was welcomed with celebrations by the staff and inmates of Pingalwara.
