Jallianwala Bagh Martyrs Memorial Civil Hospital has hired a private company to manage the sanitation, security and housekeeping on its premises. The hospital has agreed to pay Rs 5.25 lakh per month to a company for providing all these services.
Senior medical officer, Dr Hardeep Singh Ghai, said, “The company has to provide 11 security guards, 35 sanitation workers, electrician, plumber, carpenter and any other technician for the purpose of housekeeping.” He said as per the agreement, the entire process of sanitation and cleanliness would be mechanised by the company.
During a visit to the hospital, workers of the company were seen cleaning the floor with mopping machines and vacuum cleaners. Dr Ghai said the health minister had sanctioned the outsourcing of the sanitation, security and housekeeping of the hospital.
“Our hospital has become the first hospital in the state to adopt the system. The hospital has been adjudged best in the state under “Kayakalp Project” for assessment of cleanliness and sanitation recently. We got an overall score of 77.2. With the initiation of mechanised sanitation work, we will be able to further improve the condition,” said Dr Ghai.
