CM expresses gratitude to CKD chief for accommodating IIM students

Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal met Chief Khalsa Diwan president Charanjit Singh Chadha at the latter’s residence to express his gratitude for extending a helping hand by providing hostel facility to students of the upcoming batch of the IIM, Amritsar.

The CM’s also inquired about Chadha’s well being as he had undergone a surgery recently.

Earlier, the Amritsar Improvement Trust’s building at Ghee Mandi was to be used as hostel for the maiden batch of the IIM. As it was not ready, so the Chief Khalsa Diwan (CKD) volunteered to accommodate the students.

The high-profile team of Ministry of Human Resource and Development comprising Prof AK Swain, senior administrator of the IIM, Amritsar, Pawan Kumar and assistant engineer RK Rampal, visited the CKD’s newly constructed Sri Guru Amardas Old Age Home, which was to be used as hostel for students.

Located on the GT road, this building is four-km away from the premises of Punjab Institute of Technology, where the IIM classes will be held as a stop-gap arrangement. If everything goes according to the plan, the maiden batch of around 65 students for the only postgraduate degree in business management (PGDBM) course for session 2015-17 will commence from July end.

Chadha sauid as many as 36 rooms had been offered for the students at nominal rates. He said, “It will be at the disposal of IIM Amritsar’s management from July 20 onwards. It is remarkable that Amritsar has been awarded an IIM, which will help in turning the city into an educational hub.” This state-of-art building has 54 rooms. Each room has two beds with attached bathrooms. Others present on the occasion include Delhi Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (DSGMC) president Manjit Singh GK, general secretary Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Veer Singh Lopoke, officiating DC Pardeep Sabharwal, CKD honorary secretary Narinder Singh Khurana, Inderpreet Singh Chadha, Dr Dharamveer Singh, besides political and district administrative personalities.
