A five-day International Congress on English Grammar began at Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU)here on Tuesday. The Congress is being organised by the Department of English, GNDU in collaboration with the Systemic Functional Linguistics Association. The theme of the Congress is “Linguistics, English grammar, text analysis and translation.”
Explaining the concept of grammar, Dr Sukhdev Singh, convener and senior teacher of the GNDU, said the event would bring together scholars form the different parts of India and other countries so that they could discuss the main issues and share their research. Delivering keynote address, Dr Pushpinder Syal, senior professor, Panjab University, Chandigarh, explained that grammar could be used to analyse texts.
The chief guest, Dr Paramjit Singh Judge, talked about the importance of language in creative writing. He explained that the creative writers were always ahead of critics.
