Cooks to go on hunger strike

AMRITSAR: The Mid-day Meal Cook Workers Union and SSA-RMSA Non Teaching Employees Union has announced to start hunger strike at Chandigarh from February 13.

The Mid-day Meal Cook Workers Union and SSA-RMSA Non Teaching Employees Union has announced to start hunger strike at Chandigarh from February 13.

Leaders of employees’ stated that the Cabinet had taken a decision to regularise services of employees in December last year. “Now bureaucrats are applying dilly-dallying techniques. We have announced to start protest from February 1 but, at that time the Personnel Department issued a letter to all departments following which the protest was cancelled,” said the Mid-day Meal Workers Union president, Parveen Kumar.

Imran Bhatti of the SSA-RMSA Non Teaching Employees Union said, “The Chief Secretary is not giving time to employees to discuss the matter. We will continue protest till the contractual system of employment, which is resulting in exploitation of employees, is abandoned.” — TNS
