The couple took over Rs 7 lakh for the purpose in 2013, but they neither got him recruited nor returned the money to the family. Lodging a complaint with the police and approaching political leaders did not help Amarjit's cause. Police officials were sitting on the complaint and had not registered an FIR in the case so far.

Amarjit Singh said he along with his son submitted a complaint to the SSP, Amritsar rural, on October 2015 while urging him to take prompt action against the culprits. The SSP marked an inquiry and forwarded it to the Mattewal police, but they have not taken any concrete action on the complaint. He said the police recorded their statement along with the statements of the witnesses.

While narrating his tale of woes, he said he spent all his money for the purpose which he got after his retirement. He said the accused took him to Mumbai and kept him there for several days and later sent him back.

Now, Joint Platform of Mass Organisations (JPMO) has come forward to help the family. Rattan Singh Randhawa, convenor of the organisation, said a deputation of the organisation also met the SHO for registering a case against the culprits. However, the police had not take any action till now. They accused the cops of sheltering the culprits. They threatened to gherao the Mattewal police station if the police did not initiate action against the accused couple.

Jasdeep Singh, Amritsar rural police chief, said he would look into the matter and justice would be done to the aggrieved family.
