A congregation to observe the 35th anniversary of ‘Ghallughara Divas’ was organised at Gurdwara Gurdarshan Parkash Mehta, the headquarters of Sikh seminary Damdami Taksal here on Thursday. The event was marked to commemorate those who lost their lives during the Army action at the Akal Takht in 1984.
Speakers included Damdami Taksal head Harnam Singh Khalsa, SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal and Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh, who paid tributes to Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindrawale, Bhai Amrik Singh and General Subheg Singh.

An event to observe the day was also organised at the Akal Takht. Taksal leaders stated that the massive gathering at Mehta event proved that Damdami Taksal was pivotal to Sikh Panth.
SAD general secretary and former cabinet minister Bikram Singh Majitha said the government should make all documents and files related to the attack on Akal Takht public. He also criticised the Congress and then PM Indira Gandhi while holding them responsible for the attack.
Delhi Committee’s former president Manjit Singh GK, who is off late at loggerheads with SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal, also attended the event and lauded the sacrifices of Damdami Taksal.
