DAV school committee to hold meeting with parents association

Amritsar, August 9
Officials of the DAV Management Committee have announced to hold a meeting with the agitating Punjab Parents Association (PPA) members over the ‘inflated’ fee structure in its local school. PPA president MK Sharma said the meeting would take place either on August 12 or 13.
He claimed that the management was charging 40 per cent excess fee from the students of DAV Public School here in comparison to its counterpart in Ludhiana.
Members of the association alleged that keeping in view the strength of the students, over Rs 18 crore in excess were being charged annually from the students.
They said surprisingly, both schools were being run by the same management while the fee being charged was totally different. There was no logic of charging such a high fee from the border city, which economically comes after Ludhiana, they added.
They further said that 15 per cent of the annual fee fell under other expenses, which was illogical and unethical.
“It is a matter of record that the institute always issues xerox receipts of fee under different heads without any explanation, which is illegal and not tenable in the eyes of law,” MK Sharma argued.
The PPA also demanded setting up of a fee-regulatory committee at the earliest. The association added that a delay in constituting the committee was sending a wrong message in society.
All schools must refund the excess amount which they had been charging without the consent of the parents from the 2012-13 session onwards, MK Sharma said.
